The Hat Seen Around The World.....

Being a native Detroiter, I grew up on Aretha Franklin. I even cut an album in her father's church! It was a long time ago, don't try to google it! Anyhoo, I have had 2 run-ins with the Queen of Soul. Both left me thinking she is not very nice. Just when I think this she turns around and does something impeccably nice. "According to her spokeswoman, Gwendolyn Quinn, says Franklin gave Obama a collection of 17 sermons by her late father, prominent Detroit minister the Rev. C.L. Franklin.

Quinn says the 66-year-old singer also gave Obama a biography of her father and a Bible "engraved with a personal message."

Franklin gave first lady Michelle Obama a gold brooch with diamonds. Franklin's 15-year-old grandson, Jordan Franklin, gave Obama daughters Malia and Sasha a collection of gospel/Christian hip-hop music."

Say what ya want about the hat, girlfriend looked fierce! If you don't like it you don't understand the culture! Women wear these hats to Sunday Service all the time! Hasn't you view of the choir been blocked by these hats? If not, you don't know what you're missing!

Girl, Reverend Carter's wife (famous Baltimore minister) would ROCK some serious hats when I was a kid. She was the most stylish preacher's wife I'd ever seen in my life. I used to get hat magazines in the mail just because of her. She's probably rockin' one in heaven right now. And yes, those who don't know about the hat blockage haven't a clue.

I loved ReeRee's hat as it fit her so well. If she was smaller, I don't think it would have worked. As for her niceness or lack of... I sensed she was difficult to deal with when I watched her interview on Cathy Hughes' show. At any rate, I love the gifts she and her grandson gave to The First Family. Put a whole new light on her, eh?

What happened in the Cathy Hughes interview?

Nothing really bad but she seemed tense and not impressed with doing the interview seemingly. She was a tough interview for Hughes if you ask me. Ree would answer a question abrupt sometimes and that was it. It wasn't as bad as pulling teeth but it was painful at some points to watch.

I was once at an upscale mall in Michigan (The Somerset Collection) and I saw her and a male walking in the mall. I did the "black" thang and said, to myself from afar, "There's Aretha Franklin!" I made a mental note and moved on. Just then, an Asian lady said, "Aretha, Oh my God, Aretha!" Before she could approach, fully, the man with Aretha pushed her so hard she landed in a store and was flabbergasted! My mouth dropped and people were pointing like, "Dang!" Aretha laughed and kept moving. I think that celebs reserve the right to some privacy but, the lady was awestruck! She didn't deserve the push she received. These people buy your music and see your films. A nod and a quick wave will suffice! I met Delroy Lindo in Toronto and he was the quintessential professional. He may not be a marquee "celeb" but, I'll support him always!

I met Delorenzo (my site guy who I love - n0w) at a Car show in B-more. He was arrogant, rude and more to me back then in '96 (or whatever the date was). The Princess Diana died in the tragic manner she did and I re-thought about the entire incident between Delo and I. I had asked him to stand-up, take of his glasses and pose with me using my camera. Actually I was trying to interact as he was NOT getting that much attention even though NY Undercover was HOT at that time. I felt bad that he was in my city which is mostly black and not getting the love from us even though we helped the show RANK!! He may have been scared of direct fans contact as a contest to eat, meet and greet with him was involved. He may have had a bad flight, a fight with..., who knows.

He was very standoffish AND... it might have been warranted. I might have deserve the "why does she need so many pictures" response that he made to his bodyguard. I was floored and came online and talked all about it. So, I wanted to put up a website and Prince was suing WB at the same time. So, there went the Prince fan site thoughts and fast if you know that story on his net lashing. So, Delo was the one. We never talked at all but he never made me take anything down either. Blacklisted by the Wolf/NYU stint and a good while after I stopped really working on the site... he personally posted a message on my forum. I got on MySpace and posted him a "hello". He wrote me back with such appreciation it was not funny. I rec'd a PERSONALIZED autographed t-shirt later on when he released his one and only CD - finally after 6+ years. He's even emailed me and I think he tried to phone me too. Sweetheart today that changed my whole thought process about "celebs" and who they REALLY are.

Now, Shaggy... his son's mom used to post on the now defunct MCA message board. I had started my own (still up) "fans" site on his music and she loved it. And that's who he came to tell his asst he wanted to meet me. So, I attended a Delaware concert not letting them know I was going to be there. We were introduced and it was awkward because I did not know what to say. I wasn't star struck, I just did not think I would MEET him as I had no need. Long story short, he is my FFL. And his staff and are are "family" as I've been included in.

And... lastly Xzibit and I are online cool as can be. He's so friggin' down to earth. He sent me 2 tweets that really touched me.

So, back to Ms ReeRee... I agree, no one deserves to be disrespected and had I witnessed that I would never support that person again. She should not allow people to mistreat people in the name of... That woman could have sued her and I'm sure there were plenty witnesses there for the lady. That's really sad to read.
