What?!? Two sistahs nominated in the same category? I guess you're rooting for Viola Davis since you don't want Taraji to win. I haven't seen either film, so I guess I am neutral.

I want them both to have a long and prosperous career! I don't want them to be the Marisa Tomei or Kim Basinger!

I thought it was just the brown folks that disappear after Oscar wins as for the big screen and their careers are concerned. Maybe it's just me...

The brown folks disappear faster! They, also, never get mentioned again! We don't get roles to reinvent ourselves like Mickey Rourke!

People are always saying Marissa Tomei "disappeared" after she won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar. But the truth is that she has been working pretty steadily since she won her statue. Sure, she may not be a "marquee" name with a lot of leading lady roles to her credit, but she has been supporting herself in her chosen profession.

And when you think about it, what kind of actors are cast in supporting roles anyway? "Supporting" or character actors. As far as I know, only 2 Supporting Actress Oscar winners have gone on to be nominated for best actress Oscars: Meryl Streep ("Kramer vs Kramer") and Angelina Jolie ("Girl Interrupted"). Of course Meryl has won a couple times and been nominated many, many times. But she and Angelina are probably exceptions.

Besides, in Angelina's case, she'd had a number of lead roles before she was cast in the role she won her statue for, "The Bone Collector," "Pushing Tin," "Gia," and "Foxfire" to name a few.

As for the black supporting actor winners disappearing faster than other actors, how many examples do we have to judge by besides Hattie McDaniel? Let's see...there's Morgan Freeman...then there's Denzel Washington. Yeah, those guys have COMPLETELY disappeared! They can't get an acting job to save their lives! Seriously? You mean those guys?

Sarcasm aside, I think Taraji will be okay.

So winning a Best Supporting Actress Oscar may not catapult an actor into "stardom" or make them a household name. These things take time. But the winners probably won't work any less than they did before the win. They may work a little more and get paid a little more.

Seems like win-win to me!
